Switzerland’s largest online store adds a crypto payment option

Digitec Galaxus, Switzerland’s largest online store, has added a crypto payment option which will feature Bitcoin among other top cryptocurrencies.

In an announcement posted on the store’s official website, customers shopping can now enjoy the convenience of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin “as well as a number of altcoins such as Ethereum, Ripple or Litecoin.”

In particular, the announcement reads:

As one of the first online shops in Switzerland, Digitec Galaxus now accepts cryptocurrencies: customers of the two online shops Digitec and Galaxus can now use Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash ABC, Bitcoin Cash SV, Ethereum, Ripple (XRP), Binance Coin, Litecoin, Tron, Neo, or OmiseGO to pay for all purchases.

However, the crypto payment option will only be available to shoppers who make purchases worth above 200 U.S dollars which is also roughly equivalent to 200 francs. The addition of the crypto payment option comes as a partnership which will see Coinify handle the payments.

The announcement added:

If customers of Digitec and Galaxus choose the crypto payment option, the checkout process redirects them to a Coinify page where they’re asked to select the desired means of payment from a list. After this, customers receive a conversion rate that applies during 15 minutes as well as payment details in text or QR code format.

Note that, with the crypto payment option, the online store does not charge any fees but the payment processor, Coinify, charges a 1.5 percent fee which is calculated as a percentage of the total purchase price.

Away from Digitec and Galaxus adding a crypto payment option, Australia is about to lead the world in conducting the first live auction for a beachfront home.

The auction will exclusively allow bidders to pay with either Binance Coin or Bitcoin. The seller targets around 3.5 million U.S dollars which is roughly between 700 and 800 Bitcoins.

While a crypto payment option has in the past been added to high profile property purchases, this is the first time cryptocurrencies are being accepted in a live auction.

Do you think Digitec Galaxus’s addition of a crypto payment option will see an increase in sales?
