Users of Opera can now buy and store crypto using its Android wallet

In an announcement made earlier today, Opera will now let users of the browser buy and store crypto using its Android wallet. However, the service is currently only available in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.

Users of the popular browser will now be able to purchase Ethereum and other ERC-20 tokens. Additionally, they will also be able to buy tokens based on the ERC-721 standard like CryptoKitties, etc.

Opera has partnered Safello to help users buy and store crypto

The popular browser has partnered with Safello, a regulated cryptocurrency brokerage to enable users to buy and store crypto on their phones. The partnership will allow users to make payments using credit and debit cards together with other trusted payment means like the Swish in Sweden.

Safello is a regulated company that has already registered with Sweden’s Financial Supervisory Authority. It will be responsible for verifying users who make purchases by using Denmark’s NemID and Sweden’s BankID.

In the announcement, Opera noted that topping up a wallet with Ethereum will take less than a minute.

Charles Hamel who is the crypto product lead of the company also noted:

“We think that the next important phase for crypto will come from usage and that for it to reach wider adoption, it has to be easy to buy and easy to use.”

Now, to incentivize users to start using the crypto wallets, Safello will offer users based in Sweden a discount of 2.5 percent for a limited time. Also, users in Denmark and Norway will receive a discount of 5 percent.

The “Web 3-ready” Android web browser wallet was launched last December. At the time Hamel claimed that the new browser would remove the friction that existed and even though it was the same as the beta version it was targeting a much wider audience.
